Touch Screen for 'Love' with the People's Panel

Jackie Calderwood, Lead media artist and producer
A National Gallery Touring Exhibition in partnership with Bristol's Museums, Galleries & Archives and Tyne & Wear Museums.
Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Northern Rock Foundation, the Esmee Fairburn Foundation and in Bristol by the Friends of Bristol Art Gallery.

Synopsis
An interactive touch screen application to accompany the National Gallery touring exhibition 'Love' - currently running at Bristol's City Museum and Art Gallery.

There are so many ways to approach art, So many ways to explore Love...

The touch screen offers visitors the chance to explore works from the touring exhibition and the permanent collection through a combination of music, poetry, video, animation, photo collage, story and short film. Developed over three months of workshops with members of the People's Panel at the museum, the touch screen offers creative and unique interpretation aimed to enhance the visitors’ enjoyment of 'Love'.

Technique
As lead media artist and producer on the touch screen project I have been actively researching ways to develop an interactive artefact as a collaborative process involving museum users. The facilitated workshops have explored and resulted in interpretation of the exhibition, creation and production of a wide range of digital media, and informed the structure and design of the final application.

During my final MA semester I will be developing an outdoor pervasive media experience based on aspects of the touch screen interaction, and exploring the possibility of linking work displayed within the museum with work created through location.
